Samuel was born in Washington, D.C. Roy Henry Jackson’s father lived away from his family in Kansas City and later died of alcoholism. Jackson met his father only twice in his lifetime. He was raised by his mother, a factory worker, and later she supplied a buyer for a mental institution. 

Jackson was raised by his maternal grandparents, Edgar and Pearl Montgomery. He used to play French horn, piccolo, trumpet, and flute in his high school orchestra. He attended many segregated schools and graduated from Riverside High School in Chattanooga.

Samuel Jackson attended Morehouse College to pursue a degree in Marine biology. Then after joining the local acting group, he found an interest in acting and used his major. Before he graduated in 1972, he co-founded the ‘Just Us Theatre.

Samuel began acting on the stage and appeared in many television films. He made his feature film debut in ‘Together for Days, ’ which was released in 1972. In the 1970s, he settled on drama after taking public speaking classes and appearing in a version of The Threepenny Opera.
